Looking for a room to rent
Roommate | Knoxville, TN, USA
I am a 44 yr old lesbian who is currently going through a divorce and am looking for a room/ roommate to share a place with, or a 1 bedroom apartment for me and my Siberian Husky. I work 2 jobs. One is from home and the other one is at Cafe 4 in market square so I have steady income and my own transportation. My Husky is an 8 yr old male who is professionally trained and a certified emotional support dog.He is up to date on all his shots, very friendly and great with other people, pets and children. He is calm and quiet and will not bark or howl unless directed to and is well groomed. When not at work I typically spend most of my time at home with my husky. I do not have many close relatives nearby and I keep my friend circle small, so I do not entertain very many guests. I am a very neat, clean and organized person and like my routines. I am educated, open minded and respectful of other's beliefs and preferences and enjoy a good conversation with like minded people every now and then. I don't go out, I don't drink or use drugs! I vape and prefer a non smoking living environment.Staying with friends temporarily until I can find something more permanent and affordable.

Roommate Finder FAQs for Knoxville, TN
How many people are looking for roommates in Knoxville, TN right now?
Roomster's roommate finder currently shows 156 active roommate profiles across the Knoxville market. That pool leans on UT students and young professionals targeting Fort Sanders, the Cumberland Avenue Strip, Downtown, the Old City, and Bearden, since roommate searches here usually follow campus proximity, the academic calendar, and monthly budget more than strict neighborhood lines.
Which Knoxville areas are best for finding a roommate?
For shared housing, many students start in Fort Sanders and along Cumberland Avenue for walkable access to UT and Neyland Stadium. Downtown, the Old City, and Fourth & Gill attract young professionals near Market Square and nightlife. Bearden and North Knoxville draw renters who want established neighborhoods with character, while West Knoxville and Hardin Valley appeal to those who want newer, quieter homes near Turkey Creek.
How much do roommates in Knoxville typically pay?
In Knoxville's shared housing market, roommate rent usually falls between $500-$800/month per person, depending on neighborhood and whether it is a per-bedroom student lease. A two-bedroom split evenly in Downtown or near Fort Sanders might run $1,150-$1,600 total, so each roommate pays about $575-$800. A similar split in North or South Knoxville can land lower, giving each person more room for the same money.
What should I put in my Knoxville roommate profile?
A strong Knoxville roommate profile lays out your rent budget, move-in date, preferred neighborhoods, school or work schedule, pet situation, and study or social habits (for example, "UT junior, quiet study nights, want to be near campus" or "works at ORNL, 9 to 5, tidy"). On a roommate finder like Roomster, practical fit and matching schedules usually count more than a polished bio.
How do I know a roommate in Knoxville is who they say they are?
Roomster profiles include ID and address screening, so you can browse the roommate finder with more peace of mind. Even then, keep first conversations on the platform, video chat before you agree to anything, and set up an in-person walkthrough of the place. That habit is smart in a busy college town like Knoxville, where sublet and rental scams do turn up, especially around move-in season.
What is the best roommate finder app in Knoxville, TN?
Roomster is a strong roommate finder in Knoxville, TN when you use filters for budget, move-in date, and preferred areas like Fort Sanders, Downtown, Bearden, or West Knoxville. ID-checked profiles and direct messaging make it easier to find compatible roommates among UT students, grad students, and young professionals.

This guide will help you understand how to find a roommate in Knoxville, TN, focusing on neighborhood choices, budget considerations, and communication tips.
What Makes Knoxville, TN a Good Place to Find a Roommate
Knoxville attracts a diverse group of renters, including students from the University of Tennessee, young professionals working in the metro area, and individuals relocating for new opportunities. Many look for shared apartments or room shares to manage budget constraints while enjoying Knoxville's variety of neighborhoods.
Budget-wise, shared housing in Knoxville tends to be more affordable than renting a private apartment, especially when utilities and other expenses are split. The city’s transit access and walkability vary by area, so considering commute convenience can help narrow down roommate options that fit your daily routine.
How to Narrow Down Roommate Options in Knoxville, TN
Start by focusing your search on neighborhoods that align with your lifestyle and commute needs. Popular areas near campus and downtown offer walkability and public transit options, appealing to students and professionals alike. Suburban or quieter neighborhoods might suit those who prioritize privacy and lower noise levels.
- Consider Shared Apartments: Look for listings specifying shared apartments or room shares to find spaces designed for multiple tenants.
- Budget and Amenities: Filter for rooms that match your budget and desired amenities, such as pet-friendly policies or furnished rooms.
- Move-In Date: Align your timing with available move-in dates to avoid rushed decisions or gaps in housing.
What to Compare Before Finding a Roommate in Knoxville, TN
Compatibility is critical when sharing living space. Discuss expectations around cleanliness, noise level, guests, and pets early in the conversation to ensure a good fit. Budget alignment and lease terms also play a significant role in avoiding future conflicts.
Ask questions like:
- What is your typical daily schedule and work or study routine?
- How do you handle guests and shared responsibilities?
- Are you comfortable with pets or smoking in the apartment?
Effective communication upfront can prevent misunderstandings and make your shared living experience more enjoyable.
How to Make Your Roommate Search Safer and Smarter in Knoxville, TN
Use Roomster’s roommate finder tools to browse profiles that include budget, lifestyle preferences, and move-in dates. Look for listings with ID check and address check options to add a layer of confidence when connecting with potential roommates.

Budget, Lease Terms, and Screening Considerations for Roommates in Knoxville, TN
Room rental prices vary by neighborhood, privacy level, and furnished status. Rooms closer to downtown or the university area may command higher rents, while those in outlying neighborhoods might be more affordable but require longer commutes.
