Habitación en alquiler | Upper East Side, Manhattan, New York, NY, USA

Large furnished room available on the Upper East Side near 95th St & 2nd Ave. Rent is $2,400/month and includes utilities and Wi-Fi. The room is spacious and furnished with a bed, couch, large desk with shelves, and a closet. Some of the furniture can be removed if you prefer to bring your own. You’ll also have your own private bathroom located right outside the room. The apartment is shared with three other people. We’re quiet, respectful, and easygoing, and one of us is only home around one/two days a week. The building is a luxury doorman building with 24/7 front desk service, elevators, laundry rooms, a package room, and optional access to the gym and pool for an additional building fee. The Q train is right by the building, and Central Park is only a few blocks away. There are also plenty of restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and other shops nearby. The room is available now. I’m preferably looking for one person who is responsible, clean, and interested in staying long-term. The building will require an application and background screening, and I’ll also need to verify that you have sufficient income to comfortably cover the rent. Feel free to message me if you’re interested or would like more details or photos. address: [REDACTED]

Preguntas frecuentes

  • Where on the Upper East Side are the rooms for rent, and how many are listed?

The Upper East Side runs from 59th to 96th Street between Central Park and the East River, but its rooms for rent cluster on one side of it. West of Lexington Avenue the housing is mostly co-ops and townhouses, where shares are rare. East of Third Avenue, especially in Yorkville from 79th Street up, the side streets are lined with five- and six-story walk-ups and the avenues with postwar doorman towers, and both are full of two- and three-bedroom shares. A typical listing is a bedroom in a walk-up two-bedroom or in a one-bedroom converted with a partition wall. Roomster shows 51 rooms for rent on the Upper East Side right now, most of them between Third Avenue and the river.

  • How much is a room for rent on the Upper East Side, and where are rooms under $1,800?

Rooms here mostly ask between about $1,450 and $2,800 a month, and Roomster listings in the neighborhood average close to $2,100. The spread tracks the building. A room in a doorman high-rise on York or Third Avenue, or one with a private bath, runs $2,400 to $2,800, while a bedroom in a walk-up share on a side street costs far less. You can find rooms under $1,800 a month in Yorkville east of Second Avenue, on the blocks in the 80s between First and York Avenues, and just above 96th Street in East Harlem. Carnegie Hill and anything west of Lexington sit at the top. Furnished rooms with bills included usually add $200 to $400.

  • Can I rent a room near Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell or the Hospital for Special Surgery?

Yes. Those institutions, together with Rockefeller University, stand side by side along York Avenue from the low 60s to 72nd Street, a stretch New Yorkers have long called Bedpan Alley, and a large share of the rooms rented in Lenox Hill and lower Yorkville go to people who work there. Rooms between First and York Avenues from 65th to 79th Street are a walk from all of them, which matters when a shift ends at midnight and the nearest subway is three avenues west. Tell the household your schedule before you visit, including nights and weekends on call. Many leaseholders near the hospitals have shared with residents and nurses before and will know what a rotating schedule means.

  • Can Hunter College students find a room for rent near the 68th Street campus?

They can, though seldom on the same blocks. Hunter College sits at 68th Street and Lexington Avenue, directly above a 6 train station, and it houses only a small fraction of its students, so most rent privately. The streets around the campus are among the most expensive in the neighborhood. The usual answer is a room in Yorkville, a few stops north at 77th, 86th or 96th Street, where walk-up shares cost hundreds less. Some students look across the river instead: the F from Lexington Avenue-63rd Street reaches Roosevelt Island in one stop, and the N and W from 59th Street run to Astoria. Start before August, when students from every Manhattan campus are hunting at once.

  • Is a room for rent east of First Avenue too far from the subway?

It is farther than it looks on a map, and that is why it is cheaper. From York or East End Avenue the Q on Second Avenue is about a ten-minute walk and the 4, 5 and 6 on Lexington about fifteen. Buses fill the gap: the M15 Select Bus runs on First and Second Avenues, the M31 on York, and crosstown routes cross at 66th, 72nd, 79th, 86th and 96th Streets, with NYC Ferry leaving from East 90th Street. In exchange you get quieter blocks, Carl Schurz Park and the East River promenade, and rooms priced below those near the trains. If you commute to an office every day, time the walk in January before deciding it is fine.

  • What should I check before renting a room in an Upper East Side walk-up?

Start with the stairs, since many of these buildings have five floors and no elevator, and a fifth-floor room is discounted for a reason. Then look at the bedroom. Tenement apartments were laid out a century ago, so some bedrooms are narrow or open onto an air shaft instead of the street; a room with no window is not a legal bedroom. Ask whether heat and hot water are included, as they usually are with steam radiators, and where the nearest laundromat is, because few walk-ups have machines. Many of these buildings are rent stabilized, and in a stabilized apartment the leaseholder may not charge a roommate more than a proportionate share of the rent, so ask what the whole apartment costs.

Guide to Finding Rooms for Rent in Upper East Side, Manhattan

Searching for rooms for rent in Upper East Side, Manhattan requires understanding your budget, lifestyle needs, and timing. Whether you are a student, a young professional, or a newcomer, knowing how to evaluate lease terms, roommate preferences, and neighborhood factors can help you find a room that fits your situation.

What Makes Upper East Side, Manhattan a Good Place to Rent a Room

The Upper East Side offers a variety of room rentals, including private and shared options, catering to different budgets and preferences. Many renters look for furnished rooms or short term sublets to match flexible move-in dates. The area's walkability and access to public transit provide convenient commutes, which is appealing to students and professionals alike. Aligning your budget with the location and room type will help you focus your search effectively.

How to Narrow Down Rooms for Rent in Upper East Side, Manhattan

Refining your search by specific criteria can save time and improve your chances of finding the right room. Consider these factors:

  • Neighborhood preferences: Choose areas closer to transit or your workplace to reduce commute times.
  • Room type: Decide whether a private room or a shared room fits your comfort and budget needs.
  • Lease flexibility: Look for short term or month-to-month leases if you need adaptable arrangements.
  • Inclusions: Rooms with utilities included or furnished options simplify budgeting and moving in.

Applying these filters on your search platform will help you identify listings that align with your priorities.

What to Compare Before Renting a Room

Before finalizing your decision, it’s important to weigh several factors to ensure a good fit:

  • Budget considerations: Private rooms or those with private bathrooms generally have higher rent, so balance your preferences with your financial plan.
  • Lease terms: Understand the required deposits, lease length, and any sublease or short term options available.
  • Screening requirements: Landlords may request an ID check, address check, or credit check as part of the rental process.
  • Bathroom arrangements: Private versus shared bathrooms can affect comfort and cost.

Thoroughly comparing these elements helps avoid surprises and ensures your choice matches your lifestyle and budget.

How to Avoid Common Room Rental Mistakes in Upper East Side, Manhattan

Protect yourself by being cautious during the rental process. Follow these tips:

  • Confirm listings by requesting an ID check and address confirmation to reduce fraud risk.
  • Never send deposits or payments before signing a lease agreement.
  • Meet landlords or potential roommates in safe, public places or use virtual tours before committing.
  • Keep all communications on trusted platforms to maintain records of agreements and conversations.

These precautions help create a safer, more transparent rental experience.
