Rent the upstairs at our home!

Flat share | Piedmont, Portland, OR, USA

Hi there, future roommate! We have two rooms available upstairs in our home in Portland's Piedmont neighborhood! The house is near several major bus lines, within walking distance of the Dekum Triangle, close to both Alberta Arts District and Mississippi Avenue, and, most importantly... a Taco Bell. 🌮 Rent is $975/month plus utilities, which are split evenly among the residents. Winter is usually the most expensive and utilities average around $150 per person, give or take. The upstairs includes two rooms (about 150 sq. ft. each) plus a 100 sq. ft. landing, with plenty of storage. You'll have a driveway parking spot and share the main floor bathroom with one other roommate. Rooms are unfurnished. You'll be living with two quiet forty-somethings. Jhon and I have been friends for nearly 20 years and have lived together on and off for about. We're into music, video games, board games, and books. We both played in bands, though Jhon still plays while I've mostly traded my guitars for reading. Jhon is self-employed and building his flooring business. I work for a large logistics company and hope to move into the public sector. We don't drink or party much, and we both have partners who occasionally spend the night. Who we're looking for: Someone who wants roommates because they enjoy living with people, not just because they need a place to sleep. We'd love someone who is: • Friendly and considerate• Quiet• Clean• Willing to pitch in around the house We'd also prefer a single occupant and someone closer to our age. Tell us about yourself! • What are your hobbies?• What are some of your favorite albums?• Beatles or Beach Boys? • Where were you during J6, and what exactly were you doing that day? Thanks for reading, and good luck finding the right home! May the Force be with you, Paul and Jhon

South Loop/Pilsen Luxury Space

Flat share | Chicago, IL, USA

Hi, my name is Lily. And I'm looking to share my space with someone of the mindset, "take a year, change your life." I'm a working professional. I'm at a stage where change in my life needs conscious and precise decisions, and I hope that's the same for you too! We’re gonna make it 😇 The space is cute, if I say so myself. There are two other girlies living here, cats! But they are sweethearts and will never bother you. I'm clean, (Virgo obsessive clean) however you do NOT have to clean the apartment. But you MUST clean up after yourself, cooking, bathroom use etc. I deep clean the apartment biweekly, just a matter of cleaning style preference. I’m respectful, and pretty reasonable. I'm look for a woman roommate with the same ideals. The convertible is area is private, and the shared spaces are clean and accessible. THE ROOM: The building is located on cusp South Loop & Pilsen, near UIC! There's everything around, Whole Foods, Shopping area, cute restaurants, beautiful walkable neighborhood. The building is a luxury building. There's a gym, pool, deck, and the apartment has a private balcony (yay!) I love the space and the neighborhood. This is a 1BDRM convertible, so the living room, kitchen, is shared. The bedroom space is open, but I have floor to ceiling curtains for your privacy or you can grab a room divider if that's better for you. Dealers choice. Your space comes semi-furnished with a Helix queen mattress and storage cabinet. There is an in-unit washer dryer & central air. Best of luck in your search

Rooms for Rent in Canada: How to Find an Affordable Room That Fits Your Needs

If you're searching for rooms for rent in Canada, whether as a student, young professional, or new resident, understanding how to balance budget, location, and lease flexibility is key. Renting a room here means considering options like private or shared spaces, furnished units, and access to transit or campus. This guide helps you navigate your search smartly, so you can find a room that fits your lifestyle and budget without surprises.

What Makes Canada a Good Place to Rent a Room

Canada offers a diverse rental market with options ranging from private rooms in shared apartments to furnished short-term rentals. Many renters appreciate the availability of rooms with utilities included and flexible month-to-month leases, which can ease budgeting and move-in timing. Depending on your lifestyle—whether you're commuting to work, attending campus, or looking for easy transit access—Canada's varied neighborhoods can accommodate different preferences and budgets.

For students and commuters, proximity to campus or public transit often influences choice. Young professionals and new residents might prioritize rooms near downtown or in areas with good walkability. Budget-wise, rooms near transit hubs or outside major city centers tend to be more affordable, while downtown locations might come at a premium but offer convenience.

How to Narrow Down Rooms for Rent in Canada

To focus your search effectively, start by identifying neighborhoods that align with your commute and lifestyle. Consider:

  • Neighborhood fit: Choose areas that offer the amenities and environment you prefer, such as quiet residential zones or vibrant urban centers.
  • Transit access: Rooms near public transit can reduce commute times and transportation costs.
  • Housing style: Decide if you want a private room or are comfortable with room shares in furnished or unfurnished apartments.

Using filters on Roomster, you can specify preferences like furnished rooms, utilities included, or lease length to quickly find listings that meet your criteria. This helps you avoid sifting through unsuitable options and focus on what truly fits your needs.

What to Compare Before Renting a Room

When comparing rooms for rent in Canada, keep these factors in mind:

  • Budget and utilities: Understand what’s included in the rent—rooms with utilities included can simplify monthly expenses.
  • Lease terms: Flexible month-to-month or short-term room rentals offer greater freedom if your plans are uncertain.
  • Privacy and space: Decide between private rooms or shared accommodations depending on your comfort level.
  • Move-in date: Confirm availability to align with your schedule.
  • Amenities: Check for laundry facilities, parking, or other conveniences.

Considering these elements together ensures you pick a room that balances cost with your lifestyle preferences.

How to Avoid Common Room Rental Mistakes in Canada

To protect yourself during your room search, keep these precautions in mind:

  • Document and payment caution: Never send money before visiting the room or signing a lease. Use secure payment methods and get receipts.
  • Screening and ID check: Be prepared to provide identification and references as part of the rental process.
  • Meeting precautions: Arrange meetings in safe, public places or bring a friend when visiting new rooms.
  • Listing screening: Use Roomster’s platform features, such as ID checks and address confirmation, to reduce risk.

Being cautious helps you avoid scams and ensures a smoother rental experience.
