Room in Condo for Rent

出租房间 | Pierce Street, Albany, CA, USA

Hello all, starting September 1st I will have one bedroom for rent in my 2 bedroom condo in Albany, as my current roommate is moving out. The room includes your own private bathroom, as well as your own secured parking space in a parking garage attached. There is also extra closet space available so you have plenty of room to store your belongings. I am on the 12th floor and we get amazing views of Golden Gate Bridge, as included in the very last photos I uploaded below. It’s incredible at sunset! Rent for the room is $1500/mo plus PG&E (water and wifi are already paid for by HOA). The lease is for one year, and total move in cost would be $3000, along with a non-refundable $500 fee towards HOA (this is so that they can continue for water, wifi, and ensure that the elevators are running smoothly). As the room is in a condo, it does come with amenities. This includes: tennis courts outdoor pool rec room sauna gym The condo is conveniently located right between Albany Hill and 99 Ranch Market, and is a 15 minute walk to El Cerrito Plaza and El Cerrito Plaza BART. There is also amazing hiking trails in Albany Hill and there is a trail leading to the Albany Bulb which is about 20 mins away. There is also one cat living here, heads up. Pets are allowed, but only cats, as he is very afraid of other dogs, I apologize in advance for that. Pet deposit would be $200. Feel free to reach out to me with any other questions, I’d be happy to answer them. Looking forward to meeting each and every one of you 🙏🏻

  • How many rooms for rent are available in Berkeley, CA right now?

Roomster currently shows 33 active rooms for rent across Berkeley. That inventory spans Southside, Northside, Downtown Berkeley, North Berkeley, Elmwood, West Berkeley, and the Claremont area, with renters often comparing neighborhoods by walk time to UC Berkeley, BART and AC Transit access, and rent budget. Fresh room listings move quickly when they include parking, furnished setup, or a short walk to campus and Telegraph Avenue.

  • What are the best Berkeley neighborhoods to rent a room?

That depends on lifestyle and commute priority. Southside and Northside appeal to students who want to walk to class, Telegraph Avenue, and Sproul Plaza. Downtown Berkeley and North Berkeley suit renters who want walkable streets near BART, the Gourmet Ghetto, and cafes. Elmwood and the Claremont area offer quieter, tree-lined blocks, while West Berkeley and Ocean View tend to offer better value near Fourth Street and the I-80 corridor.

  • How much does a room for rent cost in Berkeley?

Across current Roomster listings, room rent in Berkeley typically ranges from $900-$1,600/month depending on neighborhood, amenities, and shared home size. Rooms near Southside, Northside, and Downtown Berkeley often run toward the higher end; West Berkeley, Ocean View, and areas toward South Berkeley tend to offer better value. Parking, a private bathroom, furnished status, and walking distance to UC Berkeley or BART usually account for the largest price differences.

  • Can I find furnished or short-term rooms in Berkeley?

Yes. Furnished and flexible-lease room listings appear regularly on Roomster, especially near Southside, Northside, Downtown Berkeley, and the UC Berkeley campus where students, visiting scholars, and Lawrence Berkeley Lab researchers drive steady demand for move-in-ready spaces. Those listings often include utilities or WiFi, and many follow the academic-year calendar. Just confirm exactly what is included - parking, furniture quality, laundry access, and lease length - before committing.

  • What should I check before renting a room in Berkeley?

In Berkeley, confirm walk or BART time to campus, parking permits, whether utilities are included, laundry access, pet rules, and lease dates before you commit. That matters even more if you're weighing Southside or Northside (walkable but busy near campus) against Elmwood, North Berkeley, or West Berkeley (quieter, more parking). Actual commute time to your classes, lab, or job in Downtown Berkeley or Oakland often makes a bigger difference than the neighborhood name.

  • What is the best rooms for rent app in Berkeley, CA?

Roomster is one of the top options for finding rooms for rent in Berkeley, CA. With ID screening, filters for budget, location, and proximity to UC Berkeley or BART, and direct messaging with hosts, it helps you narrow the Berkeley room market efficiently without broker friction.

Rent a Room in Berkeley, CA: What Should Your Commute Tell You?

If you’re planning to rent a room in Berkeley, CA, whether you’re a student, young professional, or new to the area, this guide will help you focus on what really matters. From managing your budget to considering commute options, knowing how to evaluate rooms for rent in Berkeley can save you time and frustration. Rooms here vary from private to shared, furnished to unfurnished, and can offer different lease terms. Understanding these details upfront makes your search more effective.

What Makes Berkeley, CA a Good Place to Rent a Room?

Berkeley attracts a mix of students, commuters, and professionals looking for convenient housing options near campus and downtown. Many renters prioritize access to public transit and walkability, which helps with daily commutes. Depending on your lifestyle, you might prefer a furnished room close to transit or a more affordable option a bit farther out. Budget-wise, rooms in central areas like downtown or near the university tend to be pricier, while shared apartments or sublets slightly outside these zones can offer more affordable monthly rates.

Keep in mind that lease terms vary widely, with some landlords offering month-to-month rentals or sublets, which are ideal if you need flexibility. Parking availability is also a consideration if you have a car, as it can be limited in busy neighborhoods.

How to Narrow Down Rooms for Rent in Berkeley, CA?

Start by identifying neighborhoods that fit your daily routine and budget. Focus on areas with good downtown access or close to campus if you’re a student or need quick transit options. Filtering by room type helps too — private rooms offer more privacy but usually cost more, while shared rooms and apartment shares can reduce expenses.

  • Check if the room is furnished or utilities included, which can simplify move-in and monthly costs.
  • Look for listings specifying flexible lease terms like month-to-month or sublets if your stay is short-term.
  • Consider parking availability if you commute by car.

Using Roomster’s filters for these features can help you quickly find rooms that match your priorities.

What to Compare Before Renting a Room

When you find potential rooms, evaluate several factors before committing. Ask about lease terms, deposits, and whether utilities are included in rent to avoid surprises. Clarify if the room is furnished and what shared spaces you’ll have access to, like bathrooms and kitchens. If you have pets, look specifically for pet friendly rooms.

Also, consider the move-in date and how it aligns with your schedule. Rooms available for immediate occupancy may be limited, so plan your search accordingly.

Finally, a basic address check through Roomster can help confirm the listing’s location and landlord details, adding a layer of confidence to your decision.

How to Avoid Common Room Rental Mistakes in Berkeley, CA?

Be cautious when sharing personal information or sending payments before meeting in person or confirming the legitimacy of the listing. Roomster offers ID and address checks for listings, but it’s wise to communicate clearly with landlords and roommates before signing any lease.

Avoid rushing into agreements based on low prices alone. Sometimes cheaper rooms might come with trade-offs like longer commutes or less privacy. Always visit the room or request a live video tour to confirm the condition and details.

Keep a record of your communications and never pay in cash without a proper receipt or lease agreement.

FAQ About Rooms for Rent in Berkeley, CA

How much should I budget for a room in Berkeley, CA?

Inquire about lease length, deposits, utilities, furnished status, parking options, and roommate preferences. Confirm the move-in date and any house rules.

When should I start searching for rooms for rent in Berkeley, CA?
