  • How many apartments for rent are available in Akron, OH right now?

Roomster currently shows 9 active apartment listings in Akron. That inventory typically spans Downtown, Highland Square, Merriman Valley, West Akron, the University of Akron area, and nearby Cuyahoga Falls, Fairlawn, and Stow, with renters often comparing several neighborhoods by rent, commute, and lifestyle fit. Fresh apartment listings move fast when priced near market rate with clear notes on parking, heating and utilities, and distance to Downtown or I-77.

  • What are the best Akron neighborhoods to rent an apartment?

For a walkable, social setup, many renters start with Highland Square and Downtown - close to coffee shops, bars, music venues, and the University of Akron. Merriman Valley appeals to renters who want larger apartment complexes near the Towpath Trail and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. West Akron and Wallhaven offer established, tree-lined streets. Nearby Cuyahoga Falls, Fairlawn, and Stow attract renters who want newer construction, more space, and quick highway access to Akron or Cleveland.

  • How much does an apartment for rent cost in Akron?

Across current Roomster listings, apartment rent in Akron typically ranges studios: $650-$900/month; 1-bedroom: $750-$1,050/month; 2-bedroom: $900-$1,300/month. Highland Square, Merriman Valley, and newer complexes in Cuyahoga Falls or Fairlawn run toward the higher end; Kenmore, Firestone Park, and older buildings near Downtown tend to offer value. Parking, in-unit laundry, modern finishes, included heating, and proximity to the University of Akron account for the largest premiums in this affordable market.

  • Can I find furnished or no broker fee apartments in Akron?

Yes. Furnished apartments and direct-to-landlord listings both appear on Roomster, especially near Downtown, the University of Akron, and Merriman Valley where relocations to Goodyear, FirstEnergy, GOJO, and the Summa and Cleveland Clinic Akron General hospital systems create steady demand. That is useful for people relocating within Ohio, between jobs, or unwilling to furnish a place from scratch. Just compare the full move-in cost - rent, deposit, parking, heating and utilities, and any building fees - not only the advertised rent.

  • What should I look for before renting an apartment in Akron?

Before renting in Akron, check proximity to I-76, I-77, or Route 8, parking cost and availability, whether heating and utilities are included, in-unit laundry, commute to Downtown or the University of Akron, distance to your METRO RTA line, and lease terms. In this market, those practical details often matter more than polished marketing copy, especially when you are comparing walkable areas like Highland Square or Downtown with value-oriented spots like Kenmore or Firestone Park. Akron winters make included heating and working furnaces worth confirming.

  • What is the best apartment finder app in Akron, OH?

Roomster is one of the top apartment finder options in Akron. It connects renters with individual landlords across Downtown, Highland Square, Merriman Valley, West Akron, the University of Akron area, and nearby Cuyahoga Falls and Fairlawn - with ID screening and no broker fees.

Rental Apartments in Akron, OH: A Move-In Timeline and Comparison Guide

Searching for rental apartments in Akron, OH can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re balancing budget, commute, and lifestyle needs. Whether you’re a professional relocating, a couple looking for a cozy space, or a commuter prioritizing transit access, understanding your options upfront is key. This guide walks you through the practical factors to consider, from apartment types and lease terms to neighborhood fit and move-in timing, so you can confidently plan your next home search in Akron.

What Kind of Apartment Search Makes Sense in Akron, OH

Akron offers a variety of rental apartments suited to different lifestyles and budgets. Many renters consider 1 bedroom apartments for their balance of privacy and affordability, while shared apartments can appeal to those prioritizing cost savings or social living. Month-to-month leases add flexibility for short-term needs or uncertain plans, and pet friendly apartments are increasingly common for animal owners. When selecting the right fit, think about your daily commute and neighborhood preferences, as proximity to public transit and walkability can greatly affect your convenience and quality of life.

How to Compare Apartments for Rent in Akron, OH

To narrow your search, focus on neighborhoods that align with your budget and lifestyle. Consider if you need parking or furnished units, especially if you’re moving in quickly or without much furniture. Filtering listings by availability date helps sync your move-in timeline with apartment openings. Apartments with utilities included may simplify monthly budgeting, while lease terms like short term or month-to-month can provide needed flexibility. Use Roomster’s filters to compare options by these features and save listings that match your priorities.

What Lease and Budget Factors Matter Most

Budgeting for an apartment in Akron means weighing rent alongside potential deposits and lease terms. Month-to-month apartments often come at a premium but offer freedom from long commitments. Lease length can influence upfront costs and your ability to move if circumstances change. Screening processes vary by landlord, so be prepared with a solid application and any required documents. Avoid committing without fully understanding lease conditions, and consider how your budget aligns with amenities like parking or pet policies.

How to Avoid Costly Rental Mistakes

When searching for rental apartments in Akron, take care to confirm listing details and communicate directly with landlords or property managers. Be cautious about requests for unusual payment methods or rushing to send deposits before seeing the unit or signing a lease. Roomster offers ID check and address check features for apartment listings that add a layer of confidence. Always arrange a visit or a virtual tour to confirm the apartment’s condition and neighborhood suitability. Clear communication and careful review of lease terms can prevent common pitfalls.
