Cozy Salem apt near downtownn
임대 방 | Essex Street, Salem, MA, USA
Bedroom for rent in a first floor apartment. Not wheelchair accessible. Monthly rent includes parking space, but utilities (electric, oil, and wifi) aren't included. I have a cat, but sadly, no other pets are allowed on the lease. Walkable from downtown, less than a block away from a pizza shop, Chinese food restaurant, breakfast place, 2 convenience stores, a laundromat, and a park. There are hook-ups for laundry, but no washer and dryer, so if you have the appliances, they can be connected, but I don't have anything. Early 1900s build, so it has old style radiators:D and horsehair plaster walls:( The landlords live on an upper floor and are very kind and helpful. Upstairs neighbors are quiet and friendly. Looking for someone who is pretty clean and respectful and doesn't mind my cat. Would prefer another woman or someone from the LGBTQ+ community. Current roommate will be leaving when the lease is up in October, so looking for someone who can move in by October 1.

자주 묻는 질문
How many rooms for rent are available in Lynn, MA right now?
Lynn is a tenant city in a region of homeowners: 52 percent of households here rent, about 18,892 of them, a higher share than any comparable community on the North Shore. That is why the 25 rooms for rent listed here look different from a suburban share market. The stock is three-deckers and older multi-family houses carved into flats, plus a genuine survival of licensed rooming houses downtown, which most Massachusetts cities zoned out decades ago. Search ZIP codes 01901 through 01905, and set your radius deliberately, because a Lynn search will quickly start returning Peabody, Lynnfield, Salem and Revere, and those towns run several hundred dollars higher for the same bedroom.
How much does a room for rent in Lynn cost per month?
The working range is $550 to $1,100 a month, which is wide because two different products sit inside it. You can find rooms under $900 a month in West Lynn, the Brickyard and the blocks around Washington Square and Central Square, and the licensed rooming houses downtown generally post between $750 and $950 with everything included. Toward the top you are paying for the ocean: the Diamond District, Lynn Shore Drive and Pine Hill hold the furnished rooms in bigger houses. Some operators price by the week here, around $200, which suits a contract or a probation period. The comparison that matters is a Lynn one-bedroom averaging $2,144, so a room keeps well over a thousand dollars a month in your pocket.
Which Lynn neighborhoods have the cheapest rooms for rent?
West Lynn is the value answer and also the practical one, since it wraps around the GE plant and the housing was built for the people who worked there. The Brickyard and the streets near Washington Square run similarly, with older multi-family buildings and landlords who often live in the same house. Downtown around Central Square is cheap for a different reason: it is the transit hub, so you trade quiet for ten bus routes and a rail platform at your door. Prices climb as you move east toward the water. The Diamond District, a 69.5-acre seaside historic district of Victorian houses sitting between downtown and the Atlantic, is the most expensive place in the city to rent a room, and Pine Hill and Wyoma on the northern edge are not far behind.
Can I find a room for rent near the GE Aerospace plant in Lynn?
Yes, and this is the search that defines West Lynn. GE Aerospace is the largest employer in the city, with more than 2,500 people across a 1.6 million square foot River Works site that designs, builds and tests military and commercial jet engines, and the company has put roughly $42 million into the plant this year on top of $31 million and $30 million in the two years before. The site has its own commuter rail platform, River Works station, and here is the part newcomers get wrong: it is the only private station on the entire MBTA system, open exclusively to GE employees working at the adjacent plant, and it operates as a flag stop. So if you do not badge in there, that platform does you no good at all, and walking distance to the gate matters far more than it would at an ordinary station. Say your shift in your first message, because the plant runs around the clock and hosts here understand what that means.
Are Lynn rooms for rent near the commuter rail and ferry, or do I need a car?
Lynn is one of the easier Massachusetts cities to live in without a car, and the options change with the season. Central Square station downtown sits on the Newburyport/Rockport Line at Zone 2 and is a genuine intermodal hub, with routes 426, 426W, 429, 435, 436, 439, 441, 442, 455 and 456 all meeting there. Several of those buses run to Wonderland in Revere, the northern end of the Blue Line, so you reach rapid transit without Lynn having a subway stop of its own. From late spring the Lynn Ferry runs from the Blossom Street Pier to Long Wharf in Boston at $7 one way, and it takes Commuter Rail Zone 2 passes; in 2026 weekday sailings started April 27 and weekend service on May 23. That means a room near the pier is a very different commute in June than in January, so ask when you view it in winter.
What should I check before renting a room in Lynn?
Start with something specific to this city: since October 2020 Lynn has required every residential rental unit to be registered with the Inspectional Services Department and inspected on a five-year cycle, covering roughly 18,000 units. Asking whether the unit is registered is a fair and useful question, and a landlord who cannot answer it tells you something. After that, pin down the heating arrangement in writing. Plenty of these houses run a single boiler for a whole floor, so establish before you move in whether your rent covers heat or whether you are buying a share of somebody else's oil delivery, and get the answer somewhere you can scroll back to. Ask the same about laundry, off-street parking and who handles the snow, and work out whether you are signing a tenancy or agreeing to an informal month-to-month with a resident owner, which is what a large share of Lynn rooms genuinely are. For safety, finish the free ID and address checks on your own profile and steer toward hosts who have done the same, since what a member completes is displayed for others to see. Keep the conversation on Roomster until you have met, insist on a live video walkthrough of the specific room rather than the listing photos, and hand money to nobody you have not met in person.
How to Rent a Room in Lynn, MA: Practical Tips and Guidance
Rent a room in Lynn, MA by considering your budget, commute, and living preferences to find a space that suits your lifestyle. Whether you’re a student, a commuter, or a new resident, understanding the local room rental landscape can help streamline your search.
What Makes Lynn, MA a Good Place to Rent a Room?
Lynn offers diverse room rental options that cater to different needs, including private rooms and shared spaces within house shares or apartment shares. Its accessibility to public transit and proximity to Boston make it appealing for commuters and students alike.
- Budget considerations: Room prices vary by type and location, with private rooms generally costing more than shared ones.
- Commute and transit: Convenient public transit options support easy access to work or campus, an important factor for many renters.
- Lease flexibility: Options like month-to-month and sublease rooms provide adaptability for those with changing plans.
How to Narrow Down Rooms for Rent in Lynn, MA?
Focus on neighborhoods that match your lifestyle and commute preferences. Downtown Lynn typically offers better walkability and transit connections, while other residential areas might provide more affordable options.
Use filters to refine your search by:
- Room type: Choose between private rooms for added privacy or shared rooms for cost savings and social interaction.
- Furnished options: Furnished rooms ease short-term stays or moves without furniture.
- Lease terms: Look for listings with flexible leases, such as subleases or month-to-month rentals, if you need short-term arrangements.
Consider amenities like laundry facilities and utilities included to simplify monthly expenses.
What to Compare Before Renting a Room
When assessing rooms in Lynn, MA, keep these points in mind:
- Privacy and space: Private rooms offer more personal space and sometimes a private bathroom, while shared rooms lower costs but involve sharing living areas.
- Lease and deposits: Understand lease length and security deposit requirements. Flexible leases can accommodate uncertain move-in dates but might cost more.
- Screening process: Landlords or roommates may request ID or address checks; having documents prepared helps the application process.
- Commute convenience: Rooms near transit stops or with easy access to campuses and downtown save time and travel costs.
How to Avoid Common Room Rental Mistakes in Lynn, MA?
Protect yourself during your search by following these tips:
- Payment caution: Avoid sending money before viewing the room or signing a lease. Use secure payment methods and always request receipts.
- Meet in person or virtually: Meeting roommates or landlords helps ensure a good fit and clear communication.
- confirm listing details: Confirm what utilities are included, whether the room is furnished, and the exact lease terms before committing.
- Use Roomster tools: Features like ID check and address check help increase confidence in listings and contacts.
