Looking for Room w/bath n Parking

Spolubydlící | Cambridge, MA, USA

Looking for a room in a peaceful house, preferably in a vibrant neighborhood or near a vibrant neighborhood. My budget is between $1200 to $1650. Would love to be anywhere near the Cambridge area. I'm super easy-going low maintenance, friendly, but happy to have privacy as well. Ideally looking for a room that has its own bathroom in a house with either one, two, or potentially three roommates. I teach elementary school and do behavioral marketing for a tech company. Pretty flexible on location anywhere from Cambridge to Brighton to Watertown to Somerville. I'm pretty open-minded. I just wanna have a nice place with easy parking situation and polite roommates. Bonus if you're an optimist, enjoy music, the arts and science and meditation. I have adapted a pretty healthy living style over the last months, but I'm happy to socialize on some weekends and definitely wanna feel comfortable leaving my room as do I want whoever I'm living with to feel the same obviously. But still need my privacy and focus time although I'm out at work during the morning and early day. Feel free to ask me any questions you want. I'm pretty open and easy-going. I don't create drama and I'm a generally very happy curious person. A place that is somewhat spacious or has a balcony or some nature nearby would be fantastic. Don't wanna be in the middle of a party area but being or 10 minutes away from restaurants and shops would be great. I have no pets no significant other at the moment and I'm happy to bring furniture or use whatever you got although it would be nice to set my own room up. Just want a friendly functional environment. Anything on top of that would be a bonus.

  • How many people are looking for roommates in Cambridge, MA right now?

Roomster's roommate finder currently has 113 active roommate profiles in the Cambridge area - real people searching for a place to share or someone to share with, spread across Harvard Square, Central Square, Kendall Square, Porter Square, Inman Square, East Cambridge, and North Cambridge. The list refreshes daily as new members join and others pair off, so the pool you see is current.

  • What is the average budget for people finding roommates in Cambridge?

Most roommate seekers in Cambridge budget $1,300 to $1,600 a month for a room in a shared place. Splitting a two-bedroom lands closer to $1,900-$2,100 each, which is why so many people here choose a room in an existing household instead. Mid-Cambridge, West Cambridge, and Riverside sit at the softer end, while East Cambridge and Cambridgeport run highest. Setting a price range on Roomster hides anything outside your budget straight away.

  • Which Cambridge neighborhoods have the most active roommate listings?

Central Square, Harvard Square, Porter Square, and East Cambridge carry the heaviest roommate activity. Central draws a mix of grad students and biotech staff who want to walk to Kendall. Harvard Square and Baldwin (still listed as Agassiz on many sites) skew toward university affiliates. East Cambridge and Kendall pull lab and pharma workers from Takeda, Moderna, Pfizer, and Biogen. Porter and North Cambridge appeal to anyone who wants a quieter block with a Red Line stop, and plenty of members widen the net into Somerville's Davis and Union Square.

  • Is Roomster a good roommate finder for Harvard and MIT students?

It is one of the busiest options here, largely because the math forces it. Cambridge's student population has climbed to roughly 25,000, and about 8,000 of those students live off campus in private housing since Harvard, MIT, Lesley University, and Hult only house a share of their grad students. That gap is the roommate market. Filters for move-in date, budget, and lifestyle let you sort for the things that actually matter in a shared apartment, like quiet hours during exam season or whether someone keeps lab hours.

  • How does Roomster's roommate finder keep profiles trustworthy?

Every member can put their profile through ID and social checks, and the badge shows on the listing so you can weigh who you are talking to before you reply. Messaging stays inside the app until you decide to share contact details, which keeps your number private while you sort through early conversations. The usual Cambridge advice still applies: tour the place or take a live video walkthrough, meet the household, and never wire a deposit to someone you have not met.

  • When is the best time to look for a roommate in Cambridge?

September 1 dominates. Roughly 65-70% of Greater Boston leases turn over on that single day, so serious searching starts in May and the best shares are claimed by late June. If you are aiming for a September move, line up your roommate by the end of June, because movers are booked solid by mid-July. There is a smaller wave each January when spring semester starts, and a steady summer sublet market from June through August for anyone who needs something shorter.

Who Usually Looks for Roommates in Cambridge, MA

Cambridge attracts a diverse group of renters including students attending local universities, young professionals working in tech or biotech sectors, and commuters who value easy access to Boston via public transit. Many prefer shared apartments or house shares to balance affordability with community. Budget considerations vary across neighborhoods, with areas near campus often priced differently than those closer to downtown or transit hubs.

What to Ask Before Moving in With Someone

Before committing, ask questions that reveal how well your lifestyles align. Consider topics like:

  • Daily schedules and noise tolerance
  • Cleaning habits and shared responsibilities
  • Guest policies and social habits
  • Budget flexibility and how utilities are split

Discussing these openly can prevent misunderstandings and create a more harmonious home. Also confirm move-in dates and lease terms early to ensure timing compatibility.
